Three Rules Response
These are three of the rules I felt I noticed most when reviewing sample business plans during our project.
Rule 7: Speak Aspirationally
Ethics and Visual Rhetoric
After reading this article about ethics and visual rhetoric, I definitely understand that there are ethics involved with visuals we see in the media that one would not think of. For instance, 3-D bar graphs used with statistics can be used to suit whatever the person wants the public to think. For instance, say the difference between the sales of Shampoo bottles A & B are only 10,000 bottles sold: A sold 400,000 and B sold 390,000 (not a large difference).
5 People I would hire based upon resumes
If I was to hire five people based upon solely his or her resume, I would most likely hire Student Example Somebody, Student Example Nobody, Dorothy J. Flyfaster, Nikki J. Sticks, and Kappa Gamma.
Skeptical Resume Reader Response
After my initial reading of, "The Skeptical Resume Reader," my first impression of Douglas Richardson is that he is quite demanding and extremely cynical, but both are traits that probably make him a great recruiter. My thoughts about creating resumes for specific jobs really have not changed too much after reading this article because my father is a corporate recruiter who specializes in hiring.
Post-Presentation Analysis
Before reviewing my business pitch presentation, my first thought was, “How bad did I really do?” After watching it and listening to the overall message that I conveyed, I feel as if I did an overall great job in regards to presentation. Yes, there were the occasional “uh’s” between thoughts, but it was not enough for me to consider that it affected my speech negatively. If there is one thing that I feel was most effective, it had to have been my ethos.

How I Voted for the Best Pitch
What is it that I look for in a great business pitch? Well, first of all, I strongly believe that the person presenting the pitch must be in professional attire. While I am not saying that he or she must be in a tuxedo, I do expect a shirt and tie for men and professional attire for women as well. My first impression of a presenter is what ultimately determines how seriously I consider their idea. Second, I believe an idea must be practical.
Rhetorical Choices
For my presentation, I wanted to first and foremost create the idea of a business pitch that was practical for our class to invest in on campus here at Purdue University. My idea for a food stand, The Boiling Point, would not only be practical but versatile. Versatile in regards to the ability to move it to various locations on campus. If the Chauncey Hill location was not creating a higher profit margin in comparison to the area by the Co-Rec, then it would be a simple fix to move our business to the better location.
