English 421: Technical Writing

  Here is the Microsoft site that I found about collaboration and how it works.  This article talks about how collaboration usually works using servers and the web.  It talks about the style of the information that is usually found with online collaboration and how it is usually more non-uniform and unstructured, this is because if you try to enforce to much structure then you cause users to be less likely to want to use collaboration through servers than if you leave it unstructured so everyone can have t

  Today we wrote our usability draft and were analyzing the site to make sure that we cover everything that the personas would need to know.  We decided to make the personas a project manager and the owner.  We decided one of them would be old, so he would have little knowledge with technology and we would have to give him a lot more information than most would need to understand how the site works.  The other guy will be a little easier to explain it to because he has youth on his side so he has grown up with technology all his life and will be able to figure things out

  We have been very productive so far as a group.  We have used our group time in class very effectively so as not to create too much work for ourselves at home.  I helped last week with the creation of our personas as well as with the writing of our questions for the personas.  I was sick the next class period and missed because I was at push, so I am not sure what they did in class.  I believe that they recieved the rough draft back and began fixing the errors that were found on it.  I think we have been doing very well so far though and we are currently doin

This week, I wrote my piece of the paper and everyone else got their part in on time.  It came together nicely and Pat did a good job of formating the paper and making it flow nicely.  I also helped the group make decisions on what company our proposal should be written to and why that should be done.  I also read over the rough draft to check for any areas that need improvement and make sure it sounded really good.  Our group seems to be keeping up just fine and we seem to definately be in the performing stage, meaning that we are beyond the  storming stage and all

Well, thus far in our group project we have decided on a website, and actually we eventually decided on two of them so that we could compare and contrast the sites.  They are both project management sites and are meant for businesses to collaborate from anywhere in the world.  I have been involved with the finding of the sites as well as deciding how we would use them for the project.  I have done some evaluating of sources and did my portion of the annotated bibliography wich was a news week article about collaboration.  We have now decided to what to do for the paper,

  The reason that building the ship will help us in this class is because it is a great example of why technical writing is so important, especially for models and anything else that the user may not fully understand when putting it together.  The directions must be written so well that a totally ignorant person can understand them.  Without good technical writing those instructions for the ship would have been impossible to put together, but the directions were written well enough that we could still put them in order and get the parts put toget
