English 421: Technical Writing

 This past week, our group was assigned a company to work with for out collaboration project.  I believe it was flex adventures, which was the one with the party bus.  So basically we have just been thinking of specific questions to ask them.  The whole idea of the project is to make our web 2.0 sites more usable for a specific company.  So we tried to ask questions that would give us a better understanding of who we will be working with.

This weeks project log entry doesn't have a ton to discuss.  We will start the revision process of our white papers once they are returned and will develop the best way to go about revising the paper amongst the group members when the time comes.  In class we got the company that we are to work with and began developing the test plan.  The first part of this is the Scope.  The group came up with questions that will help us indicate what we are testing and that will be turned to the company we are working with.

For the white paper project, our group wrote up the questions for the usability test. This was done on Thursday during class.  We have turned our first set of questions.  We will send another round of questions once the first set is returned.  This is because we have two Web2.0 applications and the first set will decide which application will be used.  We want to have them use the application that will help them more.

As we went into last week, class was cancelled on Tuesday, so nothing for that day.  But as we got to Thursday, we began to learn about and set up our usability test, and wrote memos to our repsective group in the other class.  The purpose was to gain a better understanding of how they will use the technology that we are presenting to them, and for us to gain feedback on how to tailor the white paper to suit their needs.  (We also happened to take a quiz on the reading at the beginning of class, which anyone who read it a week prior forgot by that time).  We also te

This week i sat at home for Tuesdays class since it was cancelled.  Thursday i helped my group come up with usability tests for the project.  There will be 2 sets of questions for the group, since we are doing two programs we need to know which one suits them better. That is where the first set of questions comes in.  Thats all for now folks!

On Sunday, we met as a group to divide corrections we knew would be necessary before submission of the final draft.  Andy and Cody were tasked to work on adding more information regarding issues which hamper collaboration to our introduction.  Tianyi was to collect screenshots from each site and add the appropriate citation.  Finally, I was to add callouts for important quotes and to add the screenshots ot the paper.

 During this week in class, we created a lengthy list of questions to ask our company, Flex Adventures, about their interaction with Planzone.  Our group accomplished this task by having one person type while the other four said any questions which popped into their heads.  This seemed to be a pretty efficient way to do the project, as we had about 20 questions in around 10 minutes of work.  Again, every member of our group was present, on time, and contributing.  Our group is still remaining on task for all of the assignments and working well together.
