Tuesday, September 2

For Next Time:

  • Read Chapter 10: Designing Documents and Interfaces in Technical Communication Today (hereafter referred to as TCT)
  • Read the Purdue OWL entry on action verbs
  • Read David Seah's blog post on Powerpoint Resume Layout Tips
  • No later than 5pm on Wednesday, submit an article related to technical writing or the employment project.  Post your article as a blog entry, providing either a link to the article or a pdf version.  Your blog entry should also contain a two paragraph summary/critique of the article. Tag your post weekly article.

 

Thursday, September 4

  • Continued discussion of resumes.
  • Discuss cover letters.
  • Discuss student-contributed articles.

For Next Time:

  • Resume draft due by 8 am on Tuesday.  You should post your resume as a pdf attachment to your blog. Tag your post as resume draft.  You should also bring three copies of your resume to class on Tuesday.
  • Read the Purdue Owl information on cover letters.  Be sure to read all three sections. (You'll need to scroll to the bottom of the page to link to the next two parts.)
  • Read Kairos and the Cover Letter
  • Write a reading response in which you invent an exagerrated approach like the ones in "Kairos and the Cover Letter," name the approach, then write its first paragraph.  Explain what's wrong with the approach you created. Tag your entry Kairos and the Cover Letter
